FY DESIGN was commissioned by Romanique,a wedding plan company, to upgrade the original reception building, aiming to strengthen brand image and merchandise the guest experience.
Romanique is located in Art Forest, 525 FaHua Zhen Road, Changning District. This Innovation Park that used to be a historic temple established in AC 970 has been witnessing a long history of civilization. The F525 Art Forest is located in a bounded place between Zhongshan Park business district and Xu Jiahui business district, enjoying superior geographical position and convenient traffic. For hundreds years, with its profound historical ground, thick cultural atmosphere and constructive cultures of two century-old prestigious universities—Shanghai Jiaotong University and Shanghai Donghua University, this area has become a symbol of culture mingle in Shanghai, regarded as one of the most famous communities in the city.
Richard Meier, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect, said, “There is plenty of colour, and the white allows us to appreciate that colour. It intensifies our perception of colour, and the way that colour changes throughout the day the way nature changes.” White is never just white, the whiteness perfectly reflects the innocent, noble and pure love. Inspired by Chinese traditional architecture, designers have imposed the whiteness as the fundamental component to bring romantic, natural, and open space to the new building, bringing constant change to the architecture.
At the junction of indoor and outdoor, porch is an amortize. A floating screen with the LOGO of Romanique tucked into the entry of the building gives the guests a feeling of delicate romance. The designers slightly offset the front desk from the entry to provide a white ribbon-like walkway through the house to the giant unknown room in back. By extending the length of the space, the room provides the couple a wedding stage scene.
The combination of the continuous masonry wall, the upper and lower curves, glazing and clerestory glasses, and soft curtains presents a various state where is closed, translucent and lucent. The primary site goal is to create a strong sense of interpenetration, where the spatial regions do not have sharply defined boundaries and also ensure privacy. The space belongs to the semi enclosed space form, whose setting renders a still-veiled atmosphere.
To show the respect to historical architectures, the old structural stairs are maintained by giving new definition of romance. The smooth, open-tread staircase spirals up beautifully accompanied with various combination of lights to the upper floor, supplying visitors a charming and warm feeling of the building.
The spiral stairs giving access to the upper floor complete the symmetrical repertoire. The use of harmonious arcs, along with the jointing design, flooding lights from the wall lamps, and ingenious projection of the LOGO, effectively tweaks each layer and utilizes compositing tricks to enhance the overall visual effect. The implementation of functional design with the double arched door makes the VIP lounge the biggest room on the second floor which can be used in multiple occasions.
